Framed is the second episode of the second season of Only Murders in the Building and the twelfth episode overall. It aired alongside the season two premiere, Persons of Interest, on June 28, 2022.

Synopsis

A memorial for Bunny Folger provides an opportunity for our trio to question their neighbors, while they also try to get rid of a very implicating piece of evidence.

Plot

After the discovery of a secret elevator within Bunny Folger's apartment previously, the episode opens with a brief history lesson of the Arconia. The lesson explains that the Arconia was built by architect Archibald Carter and filled with numerous secret elevators and passageways throughout, hence the elevator within Folger's apartment, which once belonged to Archibald; it is later revealed that Bunny is Archibald Carter's granddaughter and has lived in the Arconia for her entire life.

The flashback introduces Charles' father, an aspiring actor who frequently walked past the Arconia daily. He explains to Charles that if his acting interview is successful, then hopefully one day they will be wealthy enough to live in the Arconia; this is largely perhaps what fuels Charles' later move to the building.

With Bunny's exotic painting now on Charles' bedroom wall, the three investigators stare at it, analysing the painting and the possible significance of its arrival in Charles' bedroom. Charles explains that the man in the photograph is Charles' father, but he is unsure why. Lifting the painting from the wall, the investigators find the word 'Savage' written on the back of the painting. Mabel confesses that she remembers something more about the night Bunny died: she whispered the word Savage as well as fourteen. Before there is time to discuss the meaning of the revelation, the investigators are interrupted by a knock at the door. It's Howard, he has a black-eye, but invites the three to a small gathering/wake being held for Bunny in her apartment.

The investigators believe that this is their perfect opportunity to return the exotic painting to its rightful place above Bunny's bed without arising suspicions, therefore decide that they will attend the wake. At the wake, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are introduced to Nina Lin, who announces that she is the new president of the Arcadia's board. Interestingly, however, Howard is reserved about Nina and tells the investigators that all is not what it seems with her; this, therefore, paints her as a possible suspect in the murder of Bunny Folger.

Moments after Nina's announcement, the wake is crashed by none other than Bunny's mother, Leonora Folger, who demands that the exotic painting — which rightfully belongs to her — is returned immediately. Leonora tells the entire room at the wake that she doesn't believe the investigators are to blame for her daughters death, but believes that they know more than they are letting on.

The plan to return the painting, however, goes horribly wrong and Charles locks the three out of the building near the dumpsters. Fearful that being caught with the painting could incriminate them, they ditch the painting and head back to their respective apartments before being spotted.

Mabel visits Alice and is presented with a piece of art made by Alice which was inspired by Mabel herself. Alice gives her an axe and tells her to destroy the work given it will be therapeutic for her. The two kiss shortly after.

Meanwhile, Oliver discusses the television adaptation of his podcast, Only Murders in the Building, with Amy Schumer. Amy remarks that she wants to play the role of Jan Bellows, but Oliver is distracted during the discussions when he notices the exotic painting from Bunny's apartment — which he, Charles, and Mabel left by the dumpsters — hanging on her wall. She explains that she found it by the dumpsters and was immediately drawn to it. Amy makes Oliver a final offer: she will sign the deal for the series when Bunny's killer is found.

Retuning to Mabel and Charles, Oliver explains that Amy has the painting in her room. They accompany Bunny's mother Leonora Folger, as she demands the painting from Amy. When Leonora inspects the painting, however, she deems that the painting is not the original, but a fake. The investigators discuss what this could mean for their investigation, and further adds fuel to their idea that someone is framing Charles for Bunny's death.

With the events of the day winding down, Oliver is given Bunny's pet parrot, as described in her will, which abruptly reveals that he knows who murdered his former owner.
